Gallery - Garden sculpture incorporating apple motif
This apple-shaped garden sculpture was designed for a house called 'The Bramleys'
This contemporary piece shows that ironwork doesn't have to be functional. Ironwork can just as easily be purely decorative - at which point it in effect becomes art.
This garden sculpture, which incorporates a range of forging and fabrication techniques, was designed to provide an eye-catching and contemporary feature in a large garden laid predominantly to lawn that had originally been an apple orchard. The simple, almost primitive outline contrasts sharply with the textured and more organic leaf and stalk. Thus even this quite simple sculptural piece gives an indication of the versatility and flexibility of metal as an artistic medium and shows how traditional forging techniques, when explored and applied with imagination and flair by a skilled blacksmith, are just as suited to contemporary as to traditional styling.
