Anwick Forge was commissioned by the eminent landscape architect, George Carter, who designed the Garden of Surprises for Lady Victoria Leatham, to produce the main entrance gates to this fantastical garden. The gates involve a  mixture of classical forge work and contemporary metalworking techniques and the design echoes in metal much of Burghley House's architectural detailing.

In addition to the gates themselves, the entrance consists of two trelliswork columns, topped with a trelliswork horizontal, which in turn supports the magnificent crown.

Anwick Forge produced several other pieces of classical ironwork around the garden as well.
