Gallery - Ironwork with which to express your individuality.....
One of two pairs of matching gates. These depict game birds, the others depict deer and hounds.
Metalwork representations of snipe, partridge and pheasant feature in these eye-catching driveway gates that the blacksmiths at Anwick Forge created over the first part of this year. They complement a second pair of gates in a similar style that incorporate representations of deer and hounds - see the next image in this section
Persepctive was cleverly used by our blacksmiths in the design and production of these gates to give an overall impression of three-dimensionality to the panorama they depict. Thus the birds in the foreground are relatively large, and the trees and hedgelines in the distance are much smaller.
Although the gates have a generally contemporary appearances, our blacksmiths used a wide range of classical forging skills in their production, as well as some more modern metalworking techniques. They show that our belief in combining ancient and modern in this way so that 'the whole is greater than the sum of the parts' is well-founded as these gates really do have the 'wow-factor'.
