Gallery - Reinstatement of railings to town house in Primrose Hill
The railings are individually fixed in place in the traditional manner with lead
We drilled out the coping stones at the required spacing to accommodate each railing. These were fixed in place using lead. This is melted into liquid form on site and poured from a ladle into the socket and then tamped down firmly before it fully hardens. Quite soon the lead loses its silver colouring and takes on its usual dark matt grey appearance. If lead is not stipulated by the client or a Conservation Officer, modern resin is a perfectly acceptable alternative that we often use too.
