A welcoming gateway for a community garden
Anwick Forge was commissioned by Groundwork Lincolnshire to produce a range of ironwork for a new community garden in a deprived area of the city of Lincoln, working in collaboration with a local primary school on the various decorative elements.
In addition to a pair of gates and a set of railings, we also produced a signboard, a set of archways and the back rest for a story telling circle, both of which were decorated with motifs based on artwork produced by children from a local primary school during a workshop with the team from Anwick Forge. Children also participated in a blacksmithing workshop, helping forge relief into the motifs, and in a further art workshop, helping paint the finished figures. It is difficult to say who had more fun doing all this: the children, or the team from Anwick Forge! But seeing the fruits of their labour on display in public probably gave them the biggest thrill of all.
