Gallery - Tattershall bench
The back rest of the bench echoes Tattershall's Coat of Arms
Anwick Forge was commissioned by Tattershall Parish Council, working in consultation with English Heritage, to design and produce a bench for the historical market place at the heart of this Lincolnshire village.
Rather than selecting from a catalogue an anonymous and sterile piece of street furniture such as one might find anywhere in the country, the Parish Council asked Anwick Forge to design something that would enhance the village's identity and contribute to its sense of place.  As the Market Place is a conservation area, it was also important that our design harmonised with its surroundings and did not look out of place amongst the historical buildings that surround it.
Whilst the seat is quite simple and understated in design, the back rest is more flamboyant and consists of hot-forged motifs and details taken from the village's coat of arms, as depicted in the nearby village signs.
